There were several photographers on the day - both online and offline.  Here is a link to the search results for the tag "edna10" in Flickr.

Live Classroom event

Live Classroom is an online platform that allows multiple participants to join in online chat via audio and text; presenters to display slide shows, videos and whiteboard presentations - all with a relatively low demand on participants' computer system resources.

As part of our innovations work in edna Groups - our free, online collaborative spaces for Australian educators and trainers - we set up an edna 10th birthday Group with a Live Classroom within the edna Groups Sandpit area.

To listen to the archive, you will need a computer with a soundcard and internet connection, a headset and a web browsers with Java plug ins installed. You'll also need to ensure that you don't have pop-up windows blocked.

You will not need to log into Sandpit to access the archive, but Live Classroom does require you to enter a user name.

If you haven't used Live Classroom before, you may need to run through the five minute set-up wizard first.

The archive of the Live Classroom event is at http://sandpit.edna.edu.au/mod/resource/view.php?id=1136

The first two minutes does not have sound and consists largely of the host, Kerrie Smith, working with users to resolve audio issues. If you click on the first Time Marker in the right hand menu, it will get you close to the "official" start of the event.

Second Life event

A view of Terra Icognita

Second Life is an online virtual world where participants create representations of themselves called avatars and can then interact with the avatars of other participants. It is free for a basic account.

On November 27th from 2:45pm Australian Central Daylight Time, we held a tenth birthday celebration for edna in Second Life - complete with virtual cake, virtual champagne, a virtual band and more.

The event took place on the island of Terra Incognita, owned by educator and PhD candidate Lindy McKeown.  We interviewed Lindy earlier this year on our E-learning Insights podcast http://www.edna.edu.au/edna/go/news/podcast/eli/ELIEP9

The SLURL (Second Life URL) of the island is: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Terra%20incognita/157/107/33/ and it has some very good information for educators wishing to find out more about Second Life.  Lindy also makes the island available for special events.

Second Life is a system intensive program that works best on robust, broadband connections and late model hardware and software.  Full system specifications are available from the Second Life web site: http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php

If your system can handle Second Life and the large downloads it requires, you will be able to go through a training session "in-world" to give you the basics.

As well, Jo Kay and Sean Fitzgerald have put together an extensive range of information services on Second Life on their web site Second Life in Education - http://sleducation.wikispaces.com
