edna principles
All activity associated with the edna suite of services will contribute positively to the continued development of edna and protect the image, integrity and quality of its service.
-
Australian perspective
edna serves Australian education. Its organisation, services and standards will reflect this Australian perspective. edna will actively seek and promote Australian content that meets the standards. -
Balance
edna strives to present a balance across educational sectors and interests. It also aims for balance between cost and national benefit. -
Collaboration
The principle of collaboration was determined by MCEETYA in 1996 and constitutes a formal policy for edna. Collaboration occurs in a range of specific forums as well as through broader consultation. -
Comprehensiveness
The services and links on edna aim to be sufficiently comprehensive to cater for the full range of Australian education and training. -
Consistency
edna will be developed as an integrated service so that users can interact consistently and seamlessly. -
Currency and relevance
edna will include and feature current information and services that are of immediate relevance to the education sector. It will also anticipate and reflect trends in education. -
Flexible targeting
edna will tailor services to the various groups within the education community within the framework of its unified, cross-sectoral service. -
Industry standard
Given the high level of representation and collaboration in edna Groups and Lists, the edna standards will be promoted as Australian education standards in harmony with international standards. -
Interactivity and communication
Interactivity and communication are fundamental to modern education; therefore edna will pioneer and model technologies built on these qualities. -
National benefit
edna is a national network of the education community in Australia and is resourced and supported by all Australian governments. edna therefore provides a publicity channel for educational material of national significance.
It will be more than the sum of its parts as it seeks to leverage products and services for national benefit. -
Networking
edna is a social networked service and it therefore develops and uses tools and administrative processes that support networking. This requires distributed or decentralised processes within a documented framework. -
Public domain
edna is publicly funded and will operate in the public domain. -
Public record
As a public site edna will archive material for the public record -
Quality
All content on edna is chosen to meet quality standards agreed by stakeholders. edna actively seeks quality educational content. It does not seek to filter out but rather to include the best. Quality is assessed in relation to educational relevance, diversity, access, currency, continuous improvement and legality. -
User orientation
edna is a service to the Australian education and training community. It therefore seeks and acts on feedback to achieve continuous improvement, ease of use and the match of services to user needs. -
Visibility
edna publishes those sites which are primary or core to Australian education.
