New Indigenous Education page on edna
http://www.edna.edu.au/edna/go/indigenous
A new Indigenous Education page has been created on edna,
with a link from the home page. The focus of the page is
cross-sectoral, but users may still browse by sector if they wish. It
is a dynamically generated page, supplying recently added resources in
Indigenous policy, information and education resources, all available
as RSS feeds. A news headline service on Indigenous education news has
been added - this is also an RSS feed that may be added to an RSS
reader so as to be continually updated on the latest news about
Indigenous education.
However, to access early
childhood cross-curriculum resources on an Indigenous theme, your best
choice is still to go to the Early Childhood curriculum resources page
and search for Aboriginal in the category search box in the middle of
that page.

Report backs directions on early childhood in SA
http://www.premier.sa.gov.au/news.php?id=3476
Inspirational
ideas from one of the world's leading experts on early childhood
development, Dr Fraser Mustard, will help South Australia to build on
its reputation as a 'family friendly' State. The State Government would
adopt most of Dr Mustard's ideas from his time as a Thinker in
Residence in South Australia. Early investment in a child's life can
help to set them on the right path in terms of their behaviour,
learning and health well into the future. Premier of SA, 23 July 2008.

early childhood development and has led the growth of interest in this
critical area. Dr Mustard lived and worked in South Australia as an
Adelaide Thinker in Residence during 2006 and 2007. His final report

Computer use by preschool children: Rethinking practice as digital natives come to preschool
http://url.edna.edu.au/YVBG
This
paper reports on the outcomes of a survey implemented in a large
regional community of Australia. The survey was completed by parents of
children aged four-five years and attending local early childhood
centres. The survey identified the types of access and use of computers
by preschool children. It was found that the children of the
respondents had significant access to computers in the home and were
skilled in many facets of computer use. Computers were used for a range
of activities, some educational and others recreational. Gender
differences in computer use were also noted. The study highlights the
changing clientele of early childhood settings and the implications for
practice in a field where computer technology is often seen as the
antithesis of good practice.
Through the Looking Glass
http://www.throughthelookingglass.org.au/
The
Through the Looking Glass (TtLG) Project is a health, education and
welfare collaborative early intervention strategy that utilizes the
existing infrastructure and universality of five child care settings
across Australia to intervene with families where there is an
identified compromised attachment relationship between the parent and
child/children. The Project is designed to achieve specific outcomes
for parents, children and child care staff. The TtLG project is based
on Attachment Theory. The intervention draws from the 'Circle of
Security' (COS) project model and assists parents and child care staff
to understand and integrate attachment theory into practice.
Issue Analysis: Child care and the labour supply
http://www.cis.org.au/issue_analysis/IA97/ia97.pdf
Child
care is said to increase female labour-force participation and
therefore economic growth. This paper seeks to verify the claims about
child care and female labour supply. It includes four major findings:
child care usage has grown markedly; the cost of child care has risen
at a greater rate than inflation; each new injection of government
funding has been followed by an escalation in the cost of child care;
there is only a weak relationship between the cost of child care and
female labour supply.
