edna>Help>Accessibility help

edna meets core World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) guidelines for accessibility. Pages have been designed so that you can use a 'screen reader' or 'screen enlarger'. Here are the accessible features on this site and how to use them.

There is a 'Skip to content' link in the left hand corner of every page in edna.  Clicking this link will take you directly to the main content of the page, bypassing the links that are in the header.

Text size and contrast

edna also offers the ability to adjust  text size.  On the right-hand side of the header, you’ll find [A-] and [A+].  These buttons either increase or decrease text size, and remain consistent over the whole of edna while you are browsing.

Graphics

All meaningful graphics have alternate text. This means, with graphics turned off, meaningful graphics (i.e.graphics that do something) will be replaced by alternate text, or if you run your mouse over the graphics, words will pop up. If you are using a screen reader, you will hear the words. You can use the TAB key to travel from one link to another in 'graphics off' view.

Accesskeys

Accesskeys are a means to jump immediately to a specific page by pressing ALT (PC) or CTRL (Mac), followed by the appropriate key on the keyboard.  Accesskeys allow you to hop around edna quickly and easily. Able-bodied users can find them equally useful as shortcuts.

The following accesskeys are implemented throughout the site in an attempt to help users using adaptive techniques and or asisstive technologies. If you find a page that does not conform to this, please let us know using the instructions on the contact us page or via askedna@edna.edu.au.

Links to resources

edna links to many external sites and resources, not all of which are W3C compliant. All links open in the current window.
