 For the benefit of stakeholder websites, the higher education sector has developed a metadata toolset that enables users to add and maintain standardised embedded metadata to web pages. The tool is free for for use by the education and training community.

The edna metadata toolset is a downloadable Java application that will work across a range of platforms and operating systems. It includes resource and element editors with plug-ins for customised thesauri and metadata schemas.

The edna metadata toolset enables the user to:

  • detect and analyse existing metadata for a web page
  • add metadata to local and remote resources
  • save the metadata into the resource or separately as .html or .rdf
  • simultaneously create or edit common elements in multiple resources
  • implement different metadata schemas and thesauri
  • prepare resources for metadata harvesting.

Platforms for the metadata toolset: Windows, Macintosh (including OSX), AIX, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, Unix, Other Java-enabled platforms.
