Add edna browse topics
Information on edna is organised into categories and topics. These are arranged around the education and training sectors - higher education, school education, vocational and technical education and so on. This means you can select categories of information of interest to you.
edna has hundreds of categories and topics for you to choose from. You may be interested in school curriculum resources or research and statistics. Whatever your area of interest, it is likely that edna has a category to suit.
The HTML option of creating browse results URLs to copy and paste into your website is a low technology solution.
Creating browse results URLs
You can construct URLs to add browse results of interest using any of the browse parameters. See below for examples of how this can be done.
Example 1
URL using a browse topic for Adult and Community Education (ACE)
http://api.edna.edu.au/browse.html?id=12691&catpath=12691
In this example we are using the parameters 'id' and 'catpath', leaving all other parameters to their default values.
How to use the 'catpath' parameter
The 'catpath' parameter describes the order of the Category Path links displayed at the top of browse results for the XML and HTML format.
Example 1
Defining the parameter value
The URL http://api.edna.edu.au/browse.html?id=13630&catpath=0,general,13630 returns the Category Path:
Top Level / General References / Australian Education
The path is defined by the parameter '0,general,13630', each topic number/alias is separated by a comma.
You can use the edna Browse pages at http://www.edna.edu.au/edna/browse to help you construct your own Category Path parameter value.
Example 2
Using the parameter to dynamically display the Category heading
The URL http://api.edna.edu.au/browse.html?id=13630&catpath=13630 returns the Category Path: Australian Education.
By simply duplicating the value of the 'id' parameter in the 'catpath' parameter it will now output just the Category heading for the Category path.
