Forums across Australia reframe the futureReframing the future is facilitating interactive forums in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart during August 2008. The forums will enable Registered Training Providers (RTOs) and practitioners to discuss strategies for diagnosing, predicting, and customizing training for workforce development needs.
Government releases 22,000 training places
Phase II of the Federal Government's Productivity Places Program has started which will see an extra 22,000 places
rolled
out for courses from Certificate II to Diploma levels. The program will also encourage people in the existing workforce to
take up training as necessary, subject to agreed arrangements being finalized with each state and territory.
New units of competency promote Intellectual Property
Precision Consultancy has been contracted to develop units of competency in relation to Intellectual Property (IP) as part
of the national Business Services qualifications. These units will also be relevant to other qualifications convened by other
industry groups. Precision Consultancy would like to consult widely about business and training needs in relation to IP and
are seeking input from interested parties. If you are interested in being involved in this project, either by providing your

National training system's e-learning priorities emerge
Six e-learning priorities have emerged across states and territories as the national training system takes an innovative approach
in responding to the challenges of a modern economy and the training needs of Australian businesses and workers. The national
training system's e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework), has awarded funding
to support
more than 90 registered training organisations (RTOs) to deliver innovative e-learning solutions for the vocational education
and training (VET) system. Although funding has been handed out via states and territories according to their local training
priorities, some common themes have emerged across Australia.
Nominations open for Trades and Skills Teacher of the Year
The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence has opened nominations for the 2008 Trade and Skills Teacher of the Year award.
There are also subcategories for outstanding trade teachers in the areas of automotive, building and construction, electrical,
hospitality, and personal services, manufacturing, metals and engineering, mineral resources and rural and farming.
Your guide to social e-learning
The Australian Flexible Learning Framework has released a new resource about social e-learning for teachers, trainers, educators
and facilitators working in vocational and educational training within adult training organisations, universities and schools.
There are guides, case studies, strategies, tools and activities which explore opportunities and challenges that are offered
by social e-learning in practice.
2008 ACPET National Conference
28-30 August 2008, TAS
The Australian Council of Private Education and Training (ACPET)is presenting the 2008 ACPET National Conference on the theme
of "Challenges for today, strategies for tomorrow". Some issues that will be covered are: new research,
private education in future years, new business models, Generation Y's expectations about education and training,
sustainability
and best practice in private education delivery, perspectives on business and industry challenges, and strategies for increasing
global reach.
National Conference of Volunteering
3-5 September 2008, QLD
The theme of the 12th National Conference on Volunteering is 'Catch the New Waves'. This conference
will explore the current
and emerging trends in volunteering such as the shift in the way people are volunteering; flexibility in management; and the
changing demographics of volunteering. The emerging trends in volunteering include, but are not limited to: episodic volunteering,
volunteer tourism, informal volunteer models, and corporate volunteering.
