Suspected people smuggling boat intercepted

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, and the Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon Bob Debus, have released a joint media release - A vessel with 35 passengers and five crew on board was intercepted by Border Protection Command shortly after a sighting by a surveillance aircraft near Ashmore Island, north-west of Western Australia late yesterday.

Unauthorised boat arrivals in Western Australia

An unauthorised vessel with 12 people on board has been located and secured by Customs on the Western Australian coast at Shark Bay. Customs officers made contact with the vessel yesterday afternoon and escorted it through sheltered waters to anchor it through the night.
