The United Nations Climate Change Conference, Poznań, Poland, - COP 14, 1-12
December 2008 The United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Poznań
ended on Saturday, 13 December. Over eleven thousand participants attended the Poznań
meeting, which both advanced international cooperation on a future climate change regime and
brought progress on key issues. “We now have a much clearer sense of where we need to go
in designing an outcome which will spell out the commitments of developed countries, the
financial support required and the institutions that will deliver that support as part of the
Copenhagen outcome,” said UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Yvo de Boer. Decisions adopted by COP 14 and

The United Nations Climate Change Conference - Poznań, Poland ended early Saturday with a
clear commitment from governments to shift into full negotiating mode next year in order to
shape an ambitious and effective international response to climate change, to be agreed in
Copenhagen at the end of 2009.

UNFCCC chief welcomes EU deal on climate 12 December 2008
Poznań, Poland
The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC),
Yvo de Boer, welcomed the news that the European Union has reached an agreement on climate
change. "The European Union's climate deal sends a clear message to the negotiations
in Poznań and onwards to Copenhagen that difficult roadblocks can be overcome and
resolved," he said.

Statement by United Nations Secretary-General Ban-Ki moon at the opening of the
High-Level Segment of COP 14 in Poznań 11 December 2008

In a speech at the opening of the High-Level Segment of the Conference, UN Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon called for global solidarity on climate change. He said that the current crises of
climate change and the global economy presented an opportunity to address both challenges
simultaneously, and that a new Green Deal spurring green growth would work for all nations,
rich as well as poor.
