The Director and Office Manager attended the Conference March 7th-10th There were over 1,200 delegates from 14 countries at this event, such as Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Holland and South Africa to name a few. By the way they estimate there is currently 300,000 people in Canada with FASD, which to me indicates Australia, would have similar levels albeit hidden and unrecognized.

Co-morbidity Grants for AOD NGO Services

The Department of Health & Ageing has advised that the capacity building grants under the Improved Services for People with Drug and Alcohol Problems and Mental Illness (Improved Services) measure will be advertised this weekend and that they will be holding information sessions across Australia in late June and in the first half of July for potential applicants.

THE NEW LOOK ABORIGINAL CULTURAL AND SPORT FESTIVAL

9th October 2007

The South Australian Aboriginal Cultural and Sport Festival, was held at Moonta over the Labour Day holiday weekend 28th to the 30th September 2007. The new look Festival attracted funding from the Social Inclusion Unit as an initiative under The Breaking the Cycle program and also from the Australian Government Department DCITA. Kevin Rudd Australian Prime Minister Says Sorry to the Stolen Generations. Georgina Williams opened the Ceremony in Adelaide at Elder Park. A Celebration by all. ADAC ran its famous BBQ to start up the Breakfast Celebration. Many Elders were heard saying they never thought they would see this day.

(ADAC) ADAC have produced this comic due to the rising incidence of drug usage involving Methamphetamine. They are called a range of names such as crystal, meth, ice, whiz, speed, gear, to name a few. It its critical that information about the health and social consequences of usage of this drug are developed and distributed within the Indigenous community.

3rd June 2008 SBS to Screen a Program on FAS

SBS to screen a program on Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder SBS television will screen a program on Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder produced by the Rural Health Education Foundation at 1.00pm on Monday 23 June. The program titled "Drinking for Two?" is a half-hour documentary which poses the question "Is it safe to drink at all while you're pregnant?" The program profiles a number of people affected by Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, along with their families. It illustrates the issues for children, adults and Indigenous communities in particular. The program is presented by Julie McCrossin, former presenter of ABC Radio National's Life Matters, and includes experts Professor Elizabeth Elliot (The Children's Hospital at Westmead, NSW), Ms Lorian Hayes (National Indigenous Australian Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Education Network) and Dr Lara Wieland (Mulungu Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre, QLD). "Drinking for Two?" can be experienced online via video web streaming and audio podcast and is also available for purchase from the Rural Health Education Foundation.
