Indigenous mine training scheme vies for award

A program for Indigenous mining trainees in Newman has been nominated as a finalist in the Western Australia Training Awards.

Many of the trainees take up full-time positions with Perth-based firm Macmahon which runs the program.

Participants are studying units at Pilbara TAFE towards a certificate two in open cut mining.

The training awards will be announced on September 5.
