Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown Entity responsible for developing, managing and executing New Zealand Government activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, in particular the Ross Dependency.  Antarctica New Zealand manages Scott Base, New Zealand’s Antarctic research station.  It maintains New Zealand’s operational presence in the Ross Dependency for the benefit of present and future generations of New Zealanders.  Key activities include supporting scientific research, conserving the intrinsic values of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean and raising public awareness (in part through arts, media and youth programmes) of the international significance of the continent.

ANTARCTIC ARTS FELLOW GARETH FARR
The score for Heat, opening at Bats Theatre in Wellington on Friday (7 November) and running until 22 November was composed by Gareth Farr. Aiming to simulate some of the restrictions of life in the Antarctic, Heat will be totally self-sustainable, with lights, sound and electronics all powered as far as possible from low drain and/or renewable energy. ANTARCTIC YOUTH AMBASSADOR ANNOUNCED
Libby Liggins of Auckland has been selected as this year’s Antarctic Youth Ambassador. The award, developed by Antarctica New Zealand in partnership with the Sir Peter Blake Trust, aims to provide an opportunity for a young New Zealander to contribute to environmental work in Antarctica. Libby Liggins is the second recipient of this award which attracted a large number of high quality applicants. For more information read the Press release here.
