On 27 November 1997, the edna web site went live and the Australian education and training community saw the launch of a web site that has served thousands of users over its first ten years.

Technology has undergone rapid change over the past decade but the focus of the edna web service has remained unchanged.  edna continues to focus on adding value to the practice and professional development of educators and trainers.

The edna VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a fantastic online tool that allows people to contribute their text or audio to explain, comment upon and contribute to images. We've put together some current and historical images of edna from the past 10 years and you're welcome to add your voice or text to them. Tell your own digital story

You can celebrate edna by sharing your experiences using the site, the Groups, participating in workshops or the relationships you've developed with the people behind the site.

Creating a digital story can be as simple as sending an email to askedna@edna.edu.au , taking a photograph or writing a blog post, or can involve a slide show, music, audio, video or animation - the medium is up to you!

It's all about sharing your story.  If you need assistance, we've provided a list of resources for creating and hosting digital stories to get you started.

Making your story available

When your story is ready to go live, send an email to askedna@edna.edu.au with the subject edna10 and let us know where it has been published.

We will either link to it or embed the video (if the site hosting your story makes that available) in this 10th birthday section of the edna site.  We will also be creating a feed of all materials tagged with the edna10 tag and will display that in this section of the edna site.

In addition to alerting us via email to where your digital story has been published, there are two powerful ways to ensure your story is heard: tagging and licensing.

Tagging

Whether you choose to tell your story in photos, blogs or other types of web sites, videos, music or audio - tagging your digital stories with the tag edna10 will mean the rest of the edna community of users can share your journey.

A tag is a specific keyword that is attached to a piece of information.  Some publishing systems - like Flickr's photo sharing and the categories available to bloggers - have tags built in.  There are also web sites like del.icio.us that allow you to add tags to existing materials and web sites.

What a tag will do for your edna digital story is allow others to find it.  If you're unsure about tagging, publish your story and send a link to us at askedna@edna.edu.au and we'll do the rest.

Licensing

Want to freely share your digital story? If the materials you use are all yours, consider using a licence that allows others to display your work on their site -- or go one step further and allow others to use bits of your work to create a new one.

The Creative Commons website  provides all the details on how to use the combination of Creative Commons licenses available.
