1. Personal Information collected when you use the Website
The Privacy Act (Cth) 1988 defines Personal Information to be:
"information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database), whether
true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably
be ascertained, from the information or opinion."
While you visit www.edna.edu.au (edna) or www.me.edu.au (collectively, the Websites), we may collect Personal Information from you in a variety of ways.
(a) Clickstream data
When you visit the Website our server makes a record of your visit and logs the following Personal Information:
- your server address;
- your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .net, .edu, etc)
- time and date of your visit to the Websites
- pages and documents you have accessed or viewed; and
- the type of browser you are using.
(b) Emails and electronic forms
The Personal Information collected by us when you send us an email, or if you complete and submit one of the electronic forms on our Websites, may include your email address and may also include some of your Personal Information such as your name. On the edna website we may record your email address and Personal Information in the following instances:
- when you subscribe to and receive the edna newsletters, such as The Networker, The Communicator, VTE & ACE e-News, edna-for-schools, and Early Childhood News or other newsletters
- when you use the webdesk or send feedback via edna contact email or electronic forms.
This Personal Information will not be disclosed to a third party without your express consent.
We also record your email address and the contents of your emails when you register to use any of the following edna open forum services, e.g.:
- a discussion list
- an edna group
- edna administration system
At me.edu.au we will use your name and other registration information to set up your personal profile so that you are identifiable on our database. You may choose to submit additional information as part of your personal profile such as interests, work, education and other content such as an image.
(c) Our use of cookies
The Websites use cookies in order to retain information about user sessions.
A cookie is a small amount of information stored on your computer by the Website server. It is information that your web browser sends back to the Website server whenever you visit it again. Cookies are used by the Websites to your browser between page visits. In this situation, the cookie identifies your browser, not you personally. Cookies are also used by the Websites if you check 'Remember Me' when you log in. In this situation, the cookie holds a unique identifier connected to your login details (username and password). No Personal Information is stored within our cookies.
2. Purpose and use of Personal Information we collect from you
The Personal Information we collect from you is used for the following purposes:
- Website and system administration, including monitoring to prevent security breaches;
- enhancement to the Websites;
- communication, statistics, research and development; and
- in me.edu.au it is collected to display your profile according to the preferences you set.

We may use your email address to contact you from time to time and may also use it for security reasons to confirm that you are who you say you are.

The Personal Information collected on the Websites will not be disclosed other than set out in this privacy statement except where authorised by you or required by law.

We will only publish Personal Information on the Websites if it has been collected for this purpose with your knowledge, or if you have otherwise consented to the disclosure.
For me.edu.au your profile information will only be shared with people you have specifically agreed to share such information with and to other members of groups you choose to belong to. You can limit who can view such Personal Information. If you do choose to share such Personal Information you do so at your own risk and we recommend that you do not share personal contact information.
With the exception of Personal Information in your personal profile on me.edu.au for which you have specified restricted access, whenever you consent to Personal Information being published on the Websites this information is accessible to users from all over the world, and will be indexed by search engines and may be copied and used by any web user. This means that, once the Personal Information is published on the Websites, we will have no control over its subsequent use and disclosure. For example, participation in any of the open forum services mentioned above may involve submitting your email address and Personal Information into the public domain. On me.edu.au you may review and revise your privacy settings and personal profile, including who has access to your profile in your account, at any time. Alternatively, you can contact us for assistance using the contact information provided below.
5. Security of your Personal Information
The security of your Personal Information will depend on your protection of your account password. Please do not disclose your account password to anyone else.
Your Personal Information will be held by us in strictest confidence.
We take all reasonable steps to ensure that the Personal Information we hold in our servers is not subject to loss, misuse or unauthorised access or alteration. However, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable and we cannot control any illegal or unforeseen activities of other people.
