4 Reasons Why Your RTO Needs Compliant RTO Resources

Registered Training Organization (RTO) is a service provider, either government or privately-owned, that conducts high-quality vocational education and training (VET) essential to the growing Australian economy. VETs allow students to harness themselves with additional knowledge and skills which could positively contribute to the national workforce.

The RTOs are approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). They are the ones confirmed to be capable of meeting the government’s rigorous standards and are permitted to issue nationally recognized qualifications. As of the moment, there are around 4000 RTOs in Australia.

The registered providers can offer qualifications at the following levels: Certificates I, II, III, and IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate, and Graduate Diploma based on their scope of registration. Read more of the article for more information about RTOs.

1. How to create An RTO?

To begin the journey of becoming an RTO, you need to go through a meticulous application process. After registration, the organization needs to comply with the standard for RTOs monitored by the ASQA.

There are eight standards where each standard has its clauses. To comply, an aspiring RTO must meet all of the clauses it consists of. Everyone applying to become an RTO must be able to demonstrate the capacity to meet these standards to qualify their intended scope of registration. All of the Standards and Clauses are referred to as Standards collectively.

If you qualify and are approved, the organization can now provide the nationally recognized training and issue Qualifications as well as Statements of Attainment. The RTO can now deliver training in all states across Australia.

2. How To Maintain Your RTO Registration?

Maintaining the registration is no joke as RTOs need to continually meet the VET quality framework standard. To ensure this, the ASQA conducts compliance monitoring through different methods. There are three types of audits the regulators generally perform.

The first one is the Registration Audits which is done upon the application for initial registration as an RTO. The second is upon renewal of registration, and the third is when an RTO is applying for a change in its scope. Regulators may also conduct surprise audits where risk factors usually show up. One specific cause for this is the complaints against the RTO which determines whether the organization is at risk of failing to comply with the VET regulatory framework.

As preparation for the audits, you need to make sure you have continued to submit and pass all the obligations. One is to comply with all the legislative components of the VET quality framework. The second is to continue being informed with general directions, an annual declaration on compliance, changes to detail and legal entity, third party agreements, mergers, and change of ownership. Next is the continued information on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), the Unique Student Identifier (USI), and qualification documentation and logos. Another is to meet the specific criteria to offer training products from the Training and Education (TAE) training package. Further, you are also required to collect and report a range of data about your business and operations. Lastly, you need to continue to meet certain licensing and registration requirements to offer some courses.

3. Why Does RTO Need Compliant RTO Resources?

Resources are the backbone of good quality teaching as this is the basis of trainers in making modules. Good quality modules mean the production of high-quality skilled trainees and a high engagement rate. Since ASQA always wants to make sure that the existing RTOs are keeping up with their standards, investing in compliant resources is a must for every RTO. This would only not let them give out good teaching, they also are assured that whenever they are given surprise regulatory audits, their resources would be able to pass the standards.

As this is necessary, RTO Advantage has a wide range of management, operational, and training assessment tools and RTO assessment materials that meet the RTO 2015 standard as well as the National Code of 2018. These resources have also passed through multiple ASQA audits which is an assurance that it has met all of the elements which are incorporated into these resources and tools to comply with the requirements.

4. What Qualities Contribute To A Successful RTO?

Along with the growth of the Registered Training Organization comes a bigger responsibility – to keep their performance on top. This means that you should have a good employer satisfaction rate, this is because you need to keep your employees updated with their skills. Having competency development, training, and quality assessment from time to time would be a great contribution to the success of your RTO.

Another is to always know how your learners are stimulated and their level of engagement. This is also a basis for when you need to update the skills of your trainers. The learner engagement might have decreased because the teaching methods have become obsolete, the quality of the competency modules is not outstanding, and the support for the students are also low.

The third is to know the competency completion rate of your training organization. A high number of enrollees does not quantify the success of your RTO, it shows how many have completed their modules successfully. Especially if there is a high rate of quality graduates produced through your training.
